On 26 April 2003 a dinner was held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the structure of DNA. Nobel laureate James Watson was guest of honour at the dinner, which was sponsored by the International Centre for Life, Newcastle, England, and held at Blagdon Hall, the home of the author, Matt Ridley.

At the end of the meal, which was held in a marquee in the grounds of the hall, the lights were dimmed and a model DNA helix was illuminated at the far end of the reflecting pool. The picture below is a little blurred, but shows the helix, and its reflection, flanked by two statues.
Despite
the presence of a number of eminent life scientists, including Richard
Dawkins, Matt Ridley and of course Watson himself, nobody seemed to
comment on the fact that the helix was left handed.
